Today’s reading Deuteronomy 9-11
Deuteronomy 11:18-20 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:
God’s people were to put His Words in their hearts. They were to teach them to their children. They were given several things to do with the Word of God that seem a little exaggerated. They were to bind them on their hands, hang them in front of their eyes, write them on the door posts of their house and have them on their gates.
They were to talk about the Word of God with their children in every aspect of their life.
This is a beautiful picture of how important God’s Word should be to all of us! We should be consumed with it. It is nothing unusual for a family to do many of the things mentioned in these verses with a sports team. They will hang banners outside their homes, wear clothes that mention the team, tattoo it on themselves, wear even glasses from the team, have posters on their walls, etc. No one seems to think that strange.
But you let them show that kind of interest in the Word of God and everyone will think that they are strange and part of a cult. God wants us to love His Word more than anything else.
We are to talk about it all the time. We are to be constantly teaching our children the Word of God. We want them to know the Words of God that can change lives.
Don’t be ashamed of the Words of God. Let God’s Word be central in your life!
