Today’s reading Numbers 27-29

Numbers 27:20 And thou shalt put some of thine honour upon him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may be obedient.

Moses is getting Joshua ready to lead the nation of Israel. Here you will find the seeds of what we do in an ordination.

Moses was to set Joshua before the people. He was to put some of his honor on Joshua. He was to get the priest and the congregation together and then he was to give him a charge. God had blessed Moses. He had gained some respect from the people.

Here he is to share that honor. He is to set Joshua up to succeed. He is to prepare him for the next step in his ministry.

There is a great lesson here for all of us. If God is using us and has used us we ought to be helping other men and women that God has chosen to be used to gain a hearing.

Some preachers can be very selfish with the honor that they have been given. They want to protect themselves and their position. I have known laymen to do the same. The deacon, leading family, big giver have often felt threatened if anyone new comes along.

Rather than feel threaten we should help others be used of God. We are to prepare and strengthen others.

How can you be a success if you haven’t prepared a successor? How can you be the last one in the greats?

Every man ought to be preparing other men to do the work of God.
