Today’s reading Exodus 31-33
Exodus 32:27 And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour.
God’s people have sinned. They have made a golden calf and worshipped it. Moses returns and is very angry!
The next challenge is shocking. He calls out to them all and says, those that are on the Lord’s side come and stand over here. Some do! Many don’t. He then tells those that have come to the Lord’s side to get their swords and go kill their brother, the companion, and their neighbor.
If they are really for God they will be against the sin against God. That has to be one of the toughest positions a person could be put in! It is not just words. Not just lifting your hand but proving your allegiance.
Today, we need to prove our allegiance to ourselves and to the world. Are you like everyone else worshipping the almighty dollar? When is the last time you gave so much that it was obvious that money wasn’t your personal protector or your goal?
When is the last time you proved your love for Jesus by risking your popularity? You knew that if you made some out and out statement for Jesus that it would have hurt you? You were for Jesus, of course. That wasn’t in question in your mind but maybe others didn’t know it!
Could it be time to pull your sword and make it evident to all that you are on the Lord’s side? Could it be time to come out of hiding as a child of God and declare your love for Him?
