Today’s reading Numbers 14-15
Numbers 14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.
The children of Israel decide not to trust God and enter into the promised land. They choose to believe what they can see, feel, calculate, and figure out! This causes God not to be pleased with them.
They are condemned to wander in the wilderness for 40 years until all of them have died. Their children had to wander with them missing out on God’s best for them. The sins of the fathers had definitely had an adverse affect on the children.
The 19 year will not be 59 before he gets to see the promised land through no fault of his own. They will enjoy God’s provision, direction, protection, and blessing over the 40 years but will have missed much of what God would have done in their lives.
Now the question becomes how much are we hindering what will happen in the lives of our children. Our willfulness can hinder them and their blessings.
You may think that is not true but you must admit the children of divorced parents do suffer from what their parents have done. The children of parents that use drugs or alcohol do suffer from their parents mistakes and sins.
The children of parents that do not love Jesus, take them to church, teach them of the grace of God also suffer.
Are you so worried about providing for your children in one way that you are hindering them in another? Are you causing your children to deal with the consequences of your willfulness?
