Today’s reading Deuteronomy 16-19

Deuteronomy 17:6-7 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death. 7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hands of all the people. So thou shalt put the evil away from among you.

One person could never under Jewish, Old Testament law have another person condemned. Not only did the person have to be a witness but the person would have to be the first to cast a stone or get involved in the death penalty.

This is the correct way. Those who would gossip about another and say ugly things should not be held as credible witnesses. They were to publicly witness with other witnesses or it wasn’t true.

Not only did they have to publicly show their face, they had to put their hand to work in the death of the person. How many people would love to hide under cover and cast doubt on the character of another yet never would they speak face to face with the one they accuse.

Then if they do speak they will not want others to see them involved. They want to cast the doubt but then hide.

What would happen if we went back to biblical methods and were true witnesses that were willing to risk their lives on the truth. They would only witness to what there were others that knew the same!
