Today’s reading Numbers 11-13
Numbers 11:11 And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
The people of Israel are complaining about the manna. They are tired of eating the same thing every day. They begin to wish that they were back in Egypt and eating the things that they liked. They do not think of all that God has done for them but rather of the things that they have given up!
Moses hears their complaints and he complains. Why is it that God has afflicted him, Moses, by making him have to lead these people? It is God that is mistreating Moses by giving him this responsibility.
So that means everyone here is upset with God and what He is doing in their lives. The people feel like God should be better to them and give them something they want to eat. Moses feels like God is not being kind to him making him put up with these people.
How often have I been upset with God and what He is doing in my life? I want something different than what He is giving me! I want to lead and have things work out the way I want. I am guilty. Are you?
We read this story and it is almost humorous. We think, wow, they are so blessed. God is at work in their lives and in their petty selfishness they are not satisfied.
But isn’t the same true of us? What are you complaining about today? How do you feel that God is mistreating you?
