Today’s reading II Samuel 8-11
II Samuel 11:11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.
David has sinned with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba! David is seeking a way out of judgment and embarrassment! He tries to get Uriah to sin and of course fails. David tries to get him drunk!
Now David gets Uriah drunk! He wants to get him to go to his house, sleep with his wife, and then David will not get caught! Uriah is too loyal to his men, God, the cause, and the Lord!
Uriah will not do what he thinks is wrong even if he is pressured to do so by the king, someone of far higher rank. He will not do wrong even when he is drunk. He has determined to do right.
Wouldn’t it be good if we were loyal to the Lord, His church and His Bible this way!
