This series of articles was written by veteran missionary Mark Coffey. You can find out more about Mark, his ministry in South Africa, and Camp Rhino at and

When I was 18 years old, I had an opportunity to go on a 5 month mission trip to the country of Peru, South America.  It was on that trip that God redirected my life.  I surrendered completely to His will, and He called me into the ministry.  Since that time, it has been my burden to help others get to the mission field.  When I experience life changing events, I desire for others to have those same opportunities.

Our hopes with Camp Rhino is that it will serve as an introduction to missions for those in the States.  We hope to recruit people from the States to come and work at our camp ministry in order to gain experience at ministering on the mission field.  They will also have the opportunity to participate in new and growing church planting ministries.  From camps, retreats, and children’s crusades, to Bible institutes, music, and preaching/teaching opportunities, there are an array of ministries on the mission field people will be able to get their feet wet in.  They will have the chance to be involved in missions first-hand.  With the English language being the common language, a person can get involved from day one.

My hopes aren’t that everyone will be a missionary to South Africa, but that God would use this ministry to show them the needs outside the US and call people to places all over the world.

Please be in prayer for Mark and his family as they currently are in the States raising funds to realize the vision of Camp Rhino.
