Today’s reading Nehemiah 9-11

Nehemiah 9:17 And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.

People who do not really read the Bible often think of the God of the Old Testament as being a hard, harsh God and then the God of the New Testament, Jesus, as being loving and kind. This only shows a great deal of ignorance or illiteracy. All you need to do is read a book like Nehemiah and a verse like this one to know that God is good and He has always been good. We should stop slandering His character.

Even when His people sinned in the Old Testament God showed grace and mercy. Notice what they realized in prayer. God is ready to forgive. He is slow to get angry. He is of great kindness. He didn’t walk away from His people even when they rebelled against Him. He is full of grace and kindness even in the Old Testament.

I think it is important to know this because when you allow sin into your life or when you are having a bad day Satan tries to get you to think wrong thoughts about God. He wants you to see that God is mean, hard, and impossible to please. That simply is not the truth.

God is good and worthy of all of our praise. He should be worshiped. He should be loved and honored for who He is and all that He has done! God is good!
