Today’s Reading Genesis 24-25

Genesis 25:31-32 And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. 32 And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me?

Esau is hungry. God, by birth, has given him the privilege of being the spiritual leader of his home. In a moment of hunger he is willing to sell all of his privileges for a bowl of beans.

I am sure that he never meant to give up such a wonderful blessing. I am sure that he was “just playing around” but Jacob wasn’t.

Esau always lived so much in the moment that he missed what was important. His question was is it fun now? Is it what I want now?

He wasn’t concerned about responsibility. He made light of important things. Everything was a joke to him.

How are you dealing with what is important? Is it what seems fun and convenient at the moment? Do you see beyond what normal men see to see what God means with things?

How does this affect your privilege of being a spiritual parent and working on the right example for your children? How does this affect your privilege of being a spiritual spouse? Is it about what you want or do you care to take into account how God meant for you to use this position and privilege?

How does it affect your personal walk with God? Is that important to you or do you just think that He loves me and understands that I am busy?

Don’t play with or make light of spiritual things? Take life seriously. You were born with a purpose. Find it and live it out!
