Today’s reading Genesis 13-17

Genesis 14:14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

Lot gets kidnapped and robbed by 5 kings and their armies. His city and neighboring cities are taken captive. Word gets to Abraham. Abraham simply gets his men, 318 of them, that have been raised and trained in his house and goes against all 5 kings. Abraham wins the battle.

For me the moral of the story is training men. Abraham is able to accomplish the unthinkable because he has raised and trained his own men.

Every pastor and missionary has the privilege of leading men. Our problem is that we are not training men. We often have been that are good followers. They attend the church and support our programs but they have not been taught to fight spiritually. They are codependents. They need the pastor.

They are not self feeders. They do not know how to do the work of God. If there were an emergency and they were called on they would probably not be able to go to battle against an army of experienced warriors and win. They, too, like Lot would be taken captive.

I challenge each of you to begin training men. I challenge the men to begin asking for training and seeking out a place that will help them become all that they can be in the Lord’s service.

I love the idea of men raised and trained in his own house!
