Today’s reading I Samuel 21-23

I Samuel 23:16 And Jonathan Saul’s son arose, and went to David into the wood, and strengthened his hand in God.

Jonathan comes to David and strengthens him in God. He reminds David of the promises of God. Though David is running for his life and surely living in fear and probably discouraged Jonathan reminds him that God has great plans for his life.

Jonathan reminds David that God’s plan is that he one day lead Israel. Jonathan tells David that he will be there with him and is gladly giving David the place that is rightfully his from a human perspective.

I wonder how often we strengthen others in the Lord. We too often think in terms of what we see, hear, and feel rather than in the promises of God. Things are going poorly and we wonder why. We focus on the darkness of our current situation rather than on the brightness of the promise of God.

Take the opportunity today to remind someone of God’s promises. Remind them that God has great and wonderful plans for them. Remind them that though things look bleak today that God will work things out to His honor and glory and their good!
