Today’s reading Genesis 18-20

Genesis 19:17-18 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. 18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:

Lot has been in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. God has decided to destroy these cities because of their wickedness. The angels tell Lot to run, cross the plain and escape to the mountain.

Lot says, Oh no, not so, my Lord! I don’t want to do that. I have other plans. I don’t like mountains. I prefer to do things my way. What about that city there?

This is the way we deal with God so often. We are willing to do a little of what His will is. We are willing to escape death and harsh punishment but not willing to go all the way and just do what God wants us to do!

Not so, my Lord. How about just a little of what you want and a little of what I want. How about I not cross the plain and climb the mountain but that I do leave the city you are destroying and go to another that I like.

I will do a little of what you want as long as you let me do what I want. Where is the submission? Where is the obedience?

Time to get the words Oh, not so, my Lord out of our mouths and hearts and to say. What ever you want me to do is what I will do!
