Today’s reading I Kings 8
I Kings 8:16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.
This is a very interesting verse. God didn’t choose a city and He didn’t really choose to build a temple. God chose a man. This man was David. David loved God and chose to build a house for God out of his deep love for Him!
I find that super interesting. Solomon is going to build the temple because David wanted to and God told him that he couldn’t but that his son could build the temple.
Several things are interesting. First God chose a man not a monument. Second God chose a man and not a city. God wanted David to express his love and faith. God honored David’s desire to serve and honor Him.
God also chooses you. He saved you. He has put in your heart to love Him. Why don’t you allow your heart to express the love you feel. That is what He chooses. He chose you!
Someone will say that God put it in David’s heart to love Him and to build the temple but that only proves my point. God chooses people over things. Things are simply a way we express our love to God.
