Today’s reading Nehemiah 4-7:3
Nehemiah 6:12 And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Nehemiah is getting attacks, slander, accusations, things that cause him to fear from his enemies. They even come acting very spiritual. He has a desire to be afraid because they are telling him that he is going to be hurt. But in this verse he does something that is extremely important. He perceives that the thoughts, the words, the prophecies are not coming from God.
How often do you have thoughts that cause you to fear? How often do you have thoughts that remind you of your inadequacy, your failures, your insecurities? Thoughts come that tell you that God is disappointed in you and no longer loves you. Thoughts come that tell you that there is no value in serving God.
Your first job is to evaluate the thought and see where it is coming from. Is the thought of God? Is it God honoring? Does the thought come in harmony with the truth revealed to us in the Scriptures?
If not you must, like Nehemiah reject, the thought and do what God has directed you to do!
