Today’s reading Exodus 21-23

Exodus 23:32-33 Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. 33 They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee.

God’s people are warned to not make a covenant with those that worship other gods. They are not to get too involved with them. The more we like someone the less we want to stand against what is wrong in their lives. We are willing to be tolerant. We are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

They were to separate from those that worshipped other gods because those gods might become a snare to them.

The Bible says how can two walk together except they be agreed. The old adage is that birds of a feather flock together. The Peruvians had a saying that said, tell me who you run around with and I will tell you who you are!

We are to go to the lost. We are to witness to them. We are to tell them about Jesus. We can do all that we can to get them to the gospel and the gospel to them. Further than that we should be very careful.

What we know is wrong doesn’t look so wrong when those that are my friends are doing it. We should live on principles not on friendship.

As much as we want to befriend the lost we must remember that light will separate darkness from us! We must remember that our love for a God that hates idols will automatically separate us from those who love idols. We can’t simply be tolerant!

Friendly, sharing the gospel, loving the sinner, but never allowing that to change our hearts or the way that we feel about the Lord Jesus and the truth He teaches!
