Proverbs 17:28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

The lesson from this verse is to talk less. When we talk less people think we are smarter than we really are. We often reveal our ignorance and get ourselves into trouble by talking too much to too many people. An old teacher I had in high school used to say that “babbling brooks are shallow and still water runs deep!”
